About the experience

For the year 2025, we are preparing something amazing: two F-18 fighter jet simulators like those from the movie TOP GUN. One will be on a movable base, and the other will be a full-fledged cockpit like our F16 Fighting Falcon. For visualization on the movable platform—the so-called light version of the F18-VR cockpit—we have purchased and are testing the most technologically intriguing VR headset of 2024, the Pimax Crystal with 8K resolution (4K per eye).

The second cockpit we’re completing will be stationary but fully functional like a real F-18, and moreover, with variable control forces just like in reality. By the end of 2024, we aim to decide on purchasing the mixed reality headset F-18MR; we are awaiting the results of the Somnium VR ONE Ultimate in mixed reality. Both machines are powered by the best GPU available today, the Nvidia 4090.

Flying the F-18 Hornet is not a video game but a sophisticated simulation using DCS technology that brings you close to reality, except for the high G-force overloads. We will first teach you to fly solo with an instructor beside you, and only in the longest 90-minute option will we connect both simulators so you can experience flying with an instructor in the second cockpit. However, if you have experience with the F-18 from DCS, we can connect both simulators immediately and offer you a 15% discount on both experiences.

About the simulator

Experience Outline

In the 30-minute option, you will experience takeoff, aerobatics, and landing at a military airfield. In the 60-minute session, you’ll also engage in adrenaline-pumping dogfights against simulated targets. The best is saved for last: after 60 minutes, in the 90-minute variant, once you’ve mastered the basic controls, the instructor will have you switch to a second cockpit. We’ll connect both cockpits together, allowing you to perform formation takeoffs and engage in dogfights against the instructor in another F-18.

As a bonus, there’s an additional 30 minutes for familiarization with the simulator controls, a tour of all simulators, and for accompanying spectators, a trial flight with the new Flight Simulator 2020 during your session. The experience is designed for 1 person plus up to 3 accompanying spectators.

 

Virtual Reality (VR):

Complete immersion into a digital world: When you use virtual reality, you put on special goggles or a helmet that displays a computer-generated environment.

Cut off from the real world: Everything you see and hear is generated by the computer. You don’t see the actual cockpit or surroundings.

Simulation of the entire environment: In VR, the entire F-18 cockpit and surrounding landscape can be virtual. You may feel as if you’re in a real aircraft, but physically you’re not.

 

Mixed Reality (MR):

Combination of the real and virtual world: When using mixed reality, you see the real F-18 cockpit while digital elements are added to your field of vision.

Interaction with real and virtual objects: For example, you can see actual aircraft controls along with virtual navigation data or simulated enemy aircraft in the sky.

Maintaining contact with reality: Unlike VR, MR doesn’t cut you off from the real world but enhances it with digital information.

 

Example in the F-18 Simulator:

VR: You sit on a 4DOF movable platform, and thanks to VR goggles, you see a completely virtual F-18 cockpit and the environment around it. Everything you experience is computer-generated.

MR: You sit in a real F-18 cockpit with actual controls. Using special glasses or displays, you see the real environment supplemented with virtual elements like other aircraft, terrain maps, or navigation information.

 

Summary:

Virtual Reality completely transports you into a digital world and isolates you from reality.

•Mixed Reality blends the real world with digital elements, allowing you to interact with both simultaneously.

 

These technologies are already helping real pilots today and now also enthusiasts to experience realistic training and improve their skills in a safe and controlled environment.

About a real aircraft

 

Letoun F/A-18 Hornet je dvoumotorový nadzvukový víceúčelový stíhací letoun schopný operovat za všech povětrnostních podmínek a z paluby letadlových lodí. Byl vyvinut společnostmi McDonnell Douglas (nyní součást Boeing) a Northrop v 70. a 80. letech 20. století.

Vývoj:

Vývoj F/A-18 Hornet začal jako reakce na potřebu amerického námořnictva nahradit stárnoucí letouny F-4 Phantom II a A-7 Corsair II. Letoun vychází z prototypu YF-17 Cobra, který byl původně vyvinut pro letectvo, ale byl adaptován pro námořní použití. První let prototypu se uskutečnil v roce 1978 a do služby vstoupil v roce 1983.

F/A-18 byl navržen jako víceúčelový letoun schopný plnit jak stíhací (Fighter), tak útočné (Attack) mise, což je vyjádřeno v jeho označení F/A. Letoun je vybaven moderní avionikou, pokročilými zbraňovými systémy a je schopen nést širokou škálu výzbroje.

Nasazení:

F/A-18 Hornet byl nasazen v řadě konfliktů, včetně:

  • Války v Perském zálivu (1990–1991): Letouny plnily jak útočné, tak stíhací mise, včetně potlačování protivzdušné obrany a vzdušného boje.
  • Operace v bývalé Jugoslávii: Podílely se na leteckých úderech a podpoře pozemních jednotek.
  • Války v Iráku a Afghánistánu: Plnily širokou škálu úkolů od letecké podpory po průzkum.

How does it go?

The experience begins with you sitting in a prepared cockpit alongside an instructor. During the main session, your accompanying guests can enjoy a bonus 15-minute flight on the Flight Simulator 2020 upon request. This is not a professional simulator but a beautifully detailed game displayed on a 55” screen, operated in a self-service mode. After the session, we’ll guide you through our center, showcasing all our professional simulators. If any are in use, you can observe them through designated windows. For our Formula 1 and Race Car simulators, adjustments are handled by qualified staff or, for an additional fee, by professional instructor Jan Charouz (available upon request in advance).

Can I bring a guests?

Yes, for experience vouchers, you can bring up to three accompanying spectators. However, only the recipient of the voucher can pilot the simulator. The only exception is the submarine experience, where three people assume different roles while one guest observes. Last-minute bookings or group courses do not include guest access, but additional spectators can join (subject to space) for CZK 190 per person. Guests can only take turns in the cockpit for an extra fee of CZK 490 per person due to the favorable pricing of longer individual sessions and increased simulator wear caused by switching users.

 

What is the ideal session length?

The most popular option is 60 minutes, as it allows for repeated landings with civil aircraft or aerial combat with the F16 fighter jet. Racing simulators include two tracks. Choose based on your preferences, as sessions can be extended at the time of reservation with a surcharge.

Do I need any previous experience?

Absolutely not! Our instructor or staff will explain everything you need to know to master the experience. For complex simulators like the Boeing 737NG, Airbus A320, F16 Fighting Falcon, Cessna 182RG, and U-BOAT submarine, a qualified instructor will guide you throughout.

Can I exchange the voucher for another one?

Yes, you can. The best option is to purchase a universal experience voucher, allowing the recipient to choose their preferred simulator. However, if you’ve already selected a specific experience, you can exchange it for another when making a reservation online, paying any price difference if necessary.

What about the validity of the voucher, the reservation date and the cancellation of the experience?

Vouchers are valid for 6–12 months and can be extended if needed. The recipient selects the date via our online reservation system during the validity period. Cancellations are free up to 72 hours before the start of the experience. Otherwise, you can purchase a new voucher at a 50% discount within one week of the original date.

Will I be piloting alone or with an instructor?

Yes, you’ll pilot as much as you’re capable of! However, our instructor will always be there to assist you as needed to ensure you fully enjoy the experience.

Will I share my experience with someone else?

No, all experiences are private, reserved exclusively for the voucher recipient and their guests. No one will interrupt your time in the cockpit with our instructor.

Are there any minimum age and height requirements for the applicant?

Our simulators are recommended for individuals aged 12+ and at least 150 cm tall due to cockpit ergonomics and complexity. However, we have accommodated younger children. If this applies to your child, please consult us in advance about the appropriate simulator. The weight limit for participants is 120 kg.

Is the trainer fully moving "full-motion-simulator"?

Yes, we have two motion simulators:

•A 5DOF Racing Simulator (5 degrees of freedom: lift, pitch, roll, forward, and lateral movement).

•A 4DOF motion aircraft simulator in VR (under preparation).

Other simulators, such as the Boeing 737NG, Airbus A320, F16 Fighting Falcon, Formula 1, and U-BOAT, are “fixed-base simulators” without hydraulics. High costs make full-flight motion simulators for commercial aircraft training impractical for public use. Professional fighter jet simulators typically don’t include motion bases due to high G-forces. However, our wide 180-degree visual field, created with three full HD projectors, delivers a highly immersive experience. Your brain will easily be tricked into perceiving motion.

    Už jako malý kluk se zajímal o letadla a obdivuje tyto stroje dodnes. Dříve stačilo lepení modelů a pozorování letadel nad hlavou. Od roku 2003 se sny být skutečným pilotem začaly rýsovat více jasněji a získal kvalifikaci obchodního pilota s doložkou IR/MEP, ATPL(A) frozen. V roce 2009 úspěšně absolvoval výběrové řízení na pozici dopravního pilota u společnosti ČSA. V současnosti se zabývá obchodními lety pro soukromou společnost, která hodlá využívat obchodní leteckou dopravu s využitím turbovrtulových letadel pro transport speciálních lékových forem.
